TOP NORTHWEST ROWERS COMPETE IN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS
USRowing's Junior District and Masters Regional Compete on Vancouver Lake

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Approximately 3,000 rowers will lift their oars at Vancouver Lake for a chance to compete in USRowing's National Championships later this summer. The 2013 USRowing Northwest Junior District Championships are May 17-19, and the USRowing Northwest Masters Regional Championships are June 21-23. The Junior District Championships will attract 2,000 participants while over 1,000 athletes will compete at the Masters Regional Championships.

National qualifiers will compete in the USRowing Youth National Championships June 7-9 in Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the USRowing Masters National Championships will be in Sarasota, Fla., August 15-18.

"We are thrilled to welcome back the USRowing Junior and Masters' Championships to Vancouver USA," said Rosemary Cooke, director of sales at the Vancouver USA Regional Tourism Office. "Vancouver Lake is a wonderful natural venue in our region. The Junior District and Masters Regional regattas are amazing for competitors and spectators, too."

The USRowing Northwest Junior District Championships regatta runs on a 2,000 meter buoyed course with stake boats. Hosted by the Portland Vancouver Rowing Association and Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation, the event will draw crews from throughout the Northwest.

"Vancouver Lake and Vancouver Lake Park are ideal venues for hosting rowing regattas as well as being one of the most beautiful venues in the country," said Alan Stewart, masters and high school coach for the Vancouver Lake Crew. "The view from the park of several snow capped mountains is stunning, and the ability to watch racing on the full 2000 meter course is almost unheard of anywhere."
