Greetings from your Co-Chairs
Welcome to our first Sports Newsletter from the Vancouver USA Regional Sports Commission! Now just a year old, we've been working vigorously to promote Vancouver USA and Clark County as a premier sports event destination.
To provide a bit of background, we are an advisory commission comprised of individuals from regional businesses, college and high school athletics, private and public sports venues, sports associations, sports medicine, tournament directors, athletic suppliers, municipal groups and staff from the Regional Tourism Office. The commission was formed under the direction of the Vancouver USA Regional Tourism Office's Board of Directors.
Our overall mission is to serve as a catalyst in attracting and promoting sports events and tournaments into Clark County while promoting tourism and creating positive economic growth for our region.
Some of the primary goals and objectives of the Sports Commission include:
- Identify local organizations to bid on new sports events
- Provide and coordinate resources in the community that will enhance the success of sports events/tournaments
- Serve as an information resource when developing contacts and knowledge in the state, Pacific Northwest and throughout the U.S.
- Prospect sports events/tournaments and bid on opportunities that fit the resources available in Clark County
- Coordinate a community calendar of regional sports events with visiting teams/individuals/fan travelers
- Ongoing inventory of facilities and contacts community-wide
- Provide education and information to the general public on the benefits of investing in sports competitions and venues
- Provide a forum for the continued recognition of sports as a positive force in improving the quality of life in the Clark County region
