For nearly five decades, the Capitol Christmas Tree has been selected from a national forest as a gift from the American People to our nation's Capitol. This year's tree, an 88-foot-tall Engelmann spruce, comes from Washington State's own Colville National Forest, only the second Washington tree to bear the honor. Before arriving at the West Front Lawn of the United States Capitol, the tree will tour Washington State, stopping in Vancouver USA Nov. 9 as part of the Vancouver Rotary Foundation's 18th Annual Festival of Trees.

Santa Claus, his elves, Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl will also make appearances and greet visitors to the tree. Visitors to the festivities can also sign a banner with Christmas messages that will be carried along to the nation's capital for display. The event will also include holiday music, entertainment and vendors with recycled arts.
