BLACK CHAIR THEATER Productions: “84, Charing Cross Road”

November 04, 2016 - November 04, 2016

BLACK CHAIR THEATER Productions: “84, Charing Cross Road” by Helene Hanff, adapted for the stage by James Roose-Evans. Friday, November 4, 2016 at 7:30pm Originally a 1970 epistolary memoir by Hanff, Roose-Evans adapted it into a stage play with an opening night of December 7, 1982. The original production had Ellen Burstyn and Joseph Maher in the lead roles. The 1987 movie version starred Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins. Magenta Theater’s version features KC Cooper and Tony Provenzola in the roles of Helene Hanff and Frank Doel, with a stellar supporting cast. New York bibliophile Helene Hanff writes to the London bookshop Marks & Co in search of some titles she has not been able to turn up locally. Store manager, Frank Doel, responds politely (in his typical English manner) to her chatty letter, and over the course of two decades, a deep, long-distance friendship evolves. If you love London and books, you’ll love this. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
