History Comes Alive at Fort Vancouver

All it takes is a half-day to understand just how much Vancouver USA is steeped in history. By just walking around the Fort Vancouver National Site, the sights, and setting will have you imagining yourself in a different era.

  • Fort Vancouver - When you step inside the walls of the reconstructed Fort Vancouver, you are immediately taken back in history. An active blacksmith shop, bake house, fur store and carpenter shop portray how daily tasks were performed when the Hudson’s Bay Company inhabited the fort beginning in 1825. Signature events are planned at the Fort throughout the year, including evening Lantern Tours in the winter and Tales of the Engage in October.
  • Pearson Air Museum - Located just down the road from Officer’s Row is Pearson Air Museum, a favorite destination among visitors that prides itself on showcasing the “Golden Age of Aviation.” With permanent displays of historic airplanes as well as rotating exhibits, a flight simulation lab, an extensive gift shop, and much more, it’s easy to spend an entire day exploring the museum
  • Officers Row - Begin your morning with a leisurely stroll along Officer’s Row, lined with the scenic Fort Vancouver Parade Grounds on one side and 22 fully-restored 19th century homes on the other. Be sure to stop in at the General George C. Marshall House, where the renowned American general lived from 1936-38 and has now been turned into a museum that is open for tours.
  • The Grant House - Finish your tour at the General Ulysses S. Grant House which was built in 1850 and is the oldest house on Officer’s Row. Originally used by the. military as the post commander’s quarters, it is now an intimate restaurant featuring a veranda, an outdoor patio and a whiskey bar offering one of the best happy hours around.
